A three-story Queen Anne mansion on Seattle's Queen Anne Hill, built in 1889 for a timber merchant and closed to the public for most of the last sixty years. Guests have the whole house for the night: eleven rooms, the servants' stair, the music parlor and the glass-roofed conservatory. Most reports come from the third floor, between midnight and three in the morning.

The haunting
Elias Blackwood made his money in timber and built the house the year Seattle burned, when the city was rebuilding in brick below him and the hill was still mostly fields. His daughter Margaret played the parlor piano every evening. She died of fever in the conservatory in the winter of 1904, and the family never used that room again. The Blackwoods sold in 1931. For thirty years the house was a boarding house, and the boarders are the first people on record complaining about footsteps on the servants' stair after the lights were out, and a piano playing in a room nobody had a key to. It closed in 1962 and stood empty until a careful restoration in 2019, which kept the original stair, the parlor piano and the conservatory glass. A local investigation group spent two nights here in 2021. They recorded knocking from inside the third-floor walls, a cold spot in the conservatory that held at eleven degrees below the rest of the room, and a short voice recording from the music parlor that three of the group heard as a woman counting. Staff still find the piano lid open in the morning.

House rules and requirements
Check-in from 6pm, check-out by 10am. The house is yours for the night; there is no host on site after 7pm, and the caretaker lives two streets away and answers the phone all night. Every guest must be 18 or over. The number of guests on the booking is the number who may stay. No smoking, candles or open flames anywhere in the house. Flashlights are provided in every room. The third floor and the servants' stair are narrow and steep. Use the handrails, and do not take the stair in the dark. Photography and audio recording are welcome for personal use. Filming for publication needs written permission in advance. Leave the conservatory door as you found it.
